A poem on Holy Thursday, 2008
Communion
By John Bannister Tabb (1845–1909)
Once when my heart was passion-free
To learn of things divine,
The soul of nature suddenly
Outpoured itself in mine.
I held the secrets of the deep,
And of the heavens above;
I knew the harmonies of sleep,
The mysteries of love.
And for a moment’s interval
The earth, the sky, the sea —
My soul encompassed, each and all,
As now they compass me.
To one in all, to all in one —
Since Love the work began —
Life’s ever widening circles run,
Revealing God and man.

Very nice, great picture also. thank you for this I appreciate it.
How nice of you to stop by and share a moment and a kind thought!
The richness of communion is hard to comprehend.
Yes, and thankfully, the richness of its bounty yields an ever-growing harvest of love for our hearts beyond our imaginings.
Communion is such a mystical thing; but it is a commandment from Jesus to do it in his memory. I always try to think of him dying the most contemptible and painful of deaths to rid the world of sin. The price he paid is really almost beyond my comprehension.
I am drawn to His table not only by the stunning grace of His sacrifice but also by the healing touchstone of His words, "Love one another as I have loved you."
Communion is one of my favorite experiences. Our church only does it once a month. I wish we had it every Sunday. I always feel so close to God during communion and it is a great reminder to examine one's self for that which isn't pure.
Great blog! Annie :o)
I hope we can carry the grace and sharing of communion out into our daily lives and into the world in simple loving ways, into our friendships and contacts with people, strangers and loved ones alike, inspiring connection, understanding, forgiveness, deepening relationships and peace. Always, peace. We can always welcome each other around a table.
Oh wow!!! This really touched me Martha!! Very, very nice and moving.

Thank you for coming by and sharing your kind comment! I'm happy to offer this word gift in honor of a special day, and hope it is nourishing in some way. Now, I'm going to make some bread, and in the yeast blooming and kneading and rising dough and baking, I will think loving thoughts of my friends and the gifts of love we are called to be to one another.
Lovely, Martha--the bread--the broken body of Christ. And the thoughts of the universal oneness of God and Man and Nature.
Blessings to you — and to all of us!
Very nice post...thank you. Communion is so special and receiving it is truly sacred.
I like the communion of great friendship, too, when spirits and psyches are in tune, growing together, gathering around a real or virtual table to share a meal of good food and drink and thoughts and caring.
You are always welcome!
